Those who buy an annuity to provide a retirement income will normally have one of the following types of pension: a personal pension, a stakeholder pension, an Additional Voluntary Contribution (AVC) or Freestanding Additional Voluntary Contribution (FSAVC) scheme, or a retirement annuity contract. Those who are members of an occupational defined contribution scheme may find that the scheme managers purchase the annuity for them, but they are entitled to choose the type of product which they want.

There are many different types of product, allowing the retired person to choose something suitable for their needs. The most basic choice is between a single life or a joint life policy . Joint life annuities will provide a pension for a person’s spouse or partner. These are therefore most normally chosen by couples, unless the spouse or partner already has an independent source of retirement income.

Another choice which can be made is between a level, and an escalating annuity. Level annuities will pay out the same income throughout the rest of a person’s life, while escalating annuities will constantly increase. The increase may be a fixed rate (e. G. 3%), or it may be linked to the Retail Price Index (RPI).

A third option involves a guarantee period. With a standard policy, if the pensioner was to die very soon after buying the annuity, the payments would simply stop. This would mean that the pensioner’s estate did not really benefit from that person’s lifetime of saving. With a guaranteed annuity, the life assurance company will pay the annuity for some predetermined period (usually five or 10 years) even if the pensioner dies.

All these options affect the amount of retirement income. For example a joint life policy will pay out less than a single life policy, because the life company have the additional commitment of funding the spouse’s pension. We are a 2 person start-up company. We have purchased a company with 10 years history, very good credit rating, and at zero employees, in NorthEast USA. Since we are tight on budget and are working as full time consultants ourselves, we are unable to market and expand the company. We were wondering if there are any websites/resources (besides posting an Ad on a jobs website) which we can explore to communicate to potential IT services marketing personnel in the NorthEast USA, to see if we can work on a commission-only basis initially. Once we start serving 2-3 clients and place a few consultants, we can afford to switch to a salary + commission option. This can be a great option for a marketing person who has contacts in the market but would like to work from home or work flex-time.

your best bet is to do a web based search for IT consulting….also put it in your profiles for what im servies you use that you are in need of people…there is a forum out there for any person..also look into any free advertising..like bullitian boards around your town at grocery stores or business…..and net work net work..join your local chamber of commerence,local b2b groups and become active and spread the word you are looking…

I also have about 4 years of inside sales experience. I am getting a lot of calls for sales jobs, but they all have very low base salaries. As in, “not enough to survive off of where I live” low.

I understand sales is about commission, but I also know that sales jobs are out there with good base salaries.

Please provide any info you can. Links to helpful sites, job titles, companies.

Job hunting can be a hard task in itself, especially if you’re not used to it. I would appreciate if someone experienced with outside commissioned sales staff could tell me what types of sales materials should be provided to them? Such as flyers, portfolios, multimedia presentations, etc.

Also what about business cards? Should I give them business cards with their name and title of “Sales Representative” on the cards?

You need to provide them with everything you’ve got. It’s up to them to use the materials wisely. Give them everything, and try to be responsive to their requests for new things. They’re out there and should know what materials are best to help them sell.

Business cards with their name and position are a must–so provide them.

Get feedback from the about the materials you provide. If a brochure doesn’t seem to be working, don’t waste any more time and money having them re-printed. Find out what works for them, and provide the entire sales force with those “tips and tricks.”

If you don’t have any materials developed yet, start off with a combination of everything you mentioned, and don’t have too many made. That way you can test out what works best.
